Taj Lake Palace

The Taj Lake Palace, located in the middle of Lake Pichola is a dream of white marble and mosaic glistening in the moonlight, very reminiscent of the most beautiful tourist cliché in the world; the Taj Mahal. Conceived in romance, the palace was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II.

INFORMATION:-
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli Mountains on one side of the lake, and lofty palaces on the other, the Taj Lake Palace spreads across a four-acre island,an almost surreal vision in marble. The Royal Butlers descendents of the original palace retainers look after all contemporary comforts and ensure that all guests are treated like Royalty.

This season live the life of Royalty at the Taj Grand Palaces - ensconced in lush private gardens or amongst the sparkling waters of indoor pools. A game of billiards or a leisurely round of croquet. A champagne heritage walk or a private home-theatre show. And the wellness and healing provided by the Jiva Spas.

At Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, an array of wondrously unique dining experiences continue to lead to new discoveries by the palate. Guests can enjoy royal Mewar fare at the Lily Pond, where courtesans once welcomed royalty into the folds of the Palace. Or sail into the middle of a purple sunset for a feast on The Ganguar – a hundred and fifty year old ceremonial imperial barge that recreates the stately splendor of royal cruises with candlelight and resplendently dressed oarsmen. Dinner on the Mewar Terrace makes for an extremely scenic and romantic experience, with spectacular views of the surrounding palaces and Lake Pichola, and a lilting serenade of contemporary music. And for the eternal romantic an intimate table for two floated on a pontoon in the moon kissed waters of the Pichola is a must do experience.

Jagat Nivas Palace

Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel is a early 17th century haveli with its charm and aesthetics, situated in the heart of the most romantic city, nestled in the fertile valley on the eastern banks of the famous Lake Pichola.

INFORMATION:-
The haveli which is in two parts and originally named as Titoda and Banderwara Haveli, was built around 17th century, the same period when the Badi Mahal in the City Palace was made.

Both the havelis were in a depliated condition and in 1987, Kr. Devraj Singh took the challenge of renovating the havelis and converting them in a hotel.

This unique cluster of houses with its rooms restored back to their old charm and glory are surrounded by the ancient havelis and temples, they are situated around a central courtyard which is approached through a narrow archway from the Jagdish temple and the old city.

The haveli is made in a typical Mewar architecture and provides a visitor a very relaxing and regal haveli atmosphere and style. The haveli situated right on the bank of Lake Pichola provides an excellent view of all the Palaces of Udaipur i.e. City Palace, Lake Palace, Monsoon Palace.

Deogarh Mahal

As soon as you glimpse the Deogarh Mahal, you can see that its rulers must have been serious players in the Mewar aristocracy, their magnificent fort a fitting stronghold for one of its sixteen “umraos” - the most senior feudal barons attending on the Maharana of Udaipur.

INFORMATION:-
Even so, you might not necessarily guess that the Rawats of Deogarh (a local title equivalent to “Raja”) once ruled over the fourth largest jagir in the whole of Rajasthan. At its most extensive, their territory comprised some 210 villages, with one of their defensive forts as far as 100 km away. Yet there is little ostentation and even less gold to be found in their palace. Like most of the Mewar nobility, they spent too much time fighting to have much to spare for amassing great wealth.

And yet if one of their ancestors, had had a better sense of humour, the throne of Mewar might even have been theirs…

It is the public face of the Deogarh rulers that we encounter first. The gateway into the front courtyard passes beneath the “Kacheri” where justice was administered - reminding us immediately that they held powers of life and limb over their subjects. Then the richly painted palace entrance leads us up, past a couple of small family shrines, through a series of narrow passages and staircases. (A grander entrance route would have been harder to defend!)

But notice how well-worn the steps are here, compared with other parts of the palace. This is the area that saw the heavy traffic, the villagers coming to pay their feudal dues or seek some judicial remedy. Their business took them only as far as the first floor, where the revenue and general administration departments were located at the front of the building.
